For more than forty years LeMessurier Consultants has done much more than make buildings stand; we have intimately shared in the creative process that produces significant architecture. More than 90 percent of our work focuses on services to architects and owners, perhaps because many of our partners and associates have had prior formal architectural training or are strongly inclined toward architecture. Each employee is committed to the engineering profession and to the task of producing structures that answer our clients' needs, often in an imaginative and bold architectural form. Success in this process of total commitment to each project was recognized by the architectural profession, when it awarded LeMessurier Consultants its AIA Allied Professions Medal. As a policy, a principal and an associate, or a senior engineer, are involved in each project. Whenever the project requires it, Bill LeMessurier adds his sharp creative talent to the conceptual design process. As the project develops, its conduct reveals the continuous application of technical and management strength from many talented people. We are far less concerned about organizing to service ourselves than we are about how to group our talent and personalities to best serve particular architects and owners and their particular projects. It is this concept that successfully fulfills each client's need for service. Our engineers are skilled in design with high strength steels, prestressed concrete and in the design of shells, space frames and other high-technology engineering. But, although experienced in the application of advanced structural techniques sometimes required for elaborate and monumental projects, our best work is frequently in producing direct, simple solutions to ordinary building problems. We make extensive use of the computer for design, control, and optimizing systems, and have a complete EDP facility including a state-of-the-art CADD system in our Cambridge office for our engineers. Many of our engineers are highly skilled in its use, and, in fact, one of our associates contributed to the creation of a powerful structural analysis program in common use throughout the engineering profession today. Since our founding as LeMessurier Associates in 1961, we have participated in a vast variety of building and related projects throughout the United States, and overseas in the Middle East, Europe and the Far East. Most of our work, however, has been in the United States, and includes housing, libraries, museums, coliseums, parking facilities, airport terminals, high-rise office structures, hospitals, gymnasiums, sports facilities, theaters, and subway terminals. Not all our work is new construction. LeMessurier Consultants has always been aware of the importance of preserving historic buildings and of the new vitality which can be achieved by renovation and reuse of older buildings. A significant portion of the firm's work involves "retrofit" projects such as the restoration of the Old Boston City Hall, Faneuil Hall, restoration of the Massachusetts Old State House and the.initial restoration work of Boston's Quincy Markets. LeMessurier Consultants has
developed whole building systems, such as the Mah-LeMessurier precast
modular system for high-rise apartments in Memphis, and the terminal buildings
for the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport, another successful modular concept.
The Dallas/Ft. Worth precast system, for example, achieved the powerful
economic advantage of repeated form utilization, yet offered a flexibility
which allowed each airline to vary its layout according to its own needs.
LeMessurier Consultants was a member of the research team that developed
the staggered truss concept for more economical steel framing of high-rise
apartments, which was an experience in deliberate design of a building
system for housing, now extensively used for hotels. We are also experienced
in the design of exterior curtain wall and facade systems in glass, masonry
and concrete, and their associated backup systems. |
