20 Somerset Street is a 110,000 square foot academic building at the Suffolk University campus in Boston, Massachusetts. The building houses laboratories and meeting spaces for the College of Arts and Sciences, specialized classrooms for the Sawyer Business School, a lecture hall, offices and even a dining facility. The building reaches ten stories, two of which are partially beneath the city streets. The concrete flat slab and shear wall structure provide not only the primary framing for the building, but also help to support the large cantilevered main entrance. Custom precast concrete modular facade panels were supported from the concrete slab edges in an effort to provide this project with an aesthetic that is reminiscent of its neighbors.
