Amherst College New Science Center
Amherst, MA

The New Science Center at Amherst College brings together several disciplines under one roof. The roof is a structural steel cantilever projecting over 40 feet over a large central common area promoting collaboration between traditionally disparate studies. The Commons is illuminated by a 4-story high glass wall hung from the roof cantilevers and flanked by transparent teaching and research spaces. The architecturally exposed concrete flat plate construction allows for the myriad mechanical systems to service the new state of the art vibration-sensitive laboratories. This building also splices the College’s existing infrastructure which exit through each end of the project through newly restored below-grade tunnels.
