Boston, Massachusetts
The Dearborn 6-12 STEM / Early College Academy is a new Boston Public School in Roxbury dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. The design of the school fosters inter-relatedness and transparency. There are no long corridors but instead the classrooms and glass-walled science exploratory rooms are spaced around a central atrium which is replete with hangers from the structure above. The complex load path at the atrium, wide monumental stairs, classroom bays, cantilevered bay windows along the perimeter, two-story open gymnasium were accommodated with structural steel.
