Placing facilities for every conceivable athletic pursuit in one complex serves the functionality of the project, but complicates design challenges. Many athletic venues, such as tracks, pools, and courts require long spans, but several of these types of facilities have other salient design considerations. Treating the steel above the pool to avoid rusting, carving pits into slabs for jump events, and reducing vibrations during basketball games each required study in this ambitious complex.
