Laboratory for Integrated Science and Engineering
Cambridge, Massachusetts

Though a prominent design feature of this complex is its interconnectedness with adjacent facilities, the laboratories within were designed as independently and stringently controlled spaces. Isolating the structure from ambient and self-induced vibrations, mitigating electromagnetic fields, facilitating nanoscale systems, and maintaining a subterranean clean room were each a discrete study in accommodating research needs.
