Nicholas Athletic Center
Cambridge, Massachusetts

The state-of-the-art 79,000 square foot athletic complex contains an ice rink and gymnasium as well as supporting athletic facilities, replacing smaller existing ones. Due to the location on a formal tidal salt marsh, large amounts of peat were removed and an innovative fill of concrete and pulverized concrete debris from the demolished buildings stabilized the soil alleviating the need for sheet piles and extensive well points as well as providing the school with future building flexibility.
