Last week, LeMessurier presented on Mass Timber Design and Construction for Skanska’s construction and development groups. Bill Lovallo, P.E., Ian Neill, P.E. and Aaron Malone, P.E. spoke on the state of mass timber projects in the Northeast and the new, tall wood building construction types allowed under the 2021 IBC – soon to be adopted in Massachusetts.
With engineers, developers, and construction managers in attendance, lively discussions occurred on how the wider project team could work collectively to develop a mass timber design project. Suzanne Robinson, P.E. presented on Climate Smart Wood and the latest incentives for mass timber in the new Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code. The presentation also covered the sustainable forestry initiatives pursued by organizations such as the New England Forestry Foundation to balance the production of timber products with the ecological health of forests and increase carbon sequestration.
