On Wednesday, April 12, Natasha Leipziger Mundis, EIT, and Adam Blanchard, P.E., presented to Northeastern University’s American Society of Civil Engineers chapter on their work at Northeastern University’s new EXP building, which is nearing completion.
The building is being constructed by Suffolk Construction and was designed by Payette. The presentation focused on the gantry crane used by the robotics club and other student groups on campus to lift and relocate heavy equipment. Natasha and Adam discussed the applicable codes, design loads and combinations, and detailing that went into the design of the crane’s supporting structure. The students enjoyed hearing firsthand how engineering practice being studied in the classroom can apply to real-world design.
