News: Terrance Dumoulin Co-Authored Publication in Journal of Building Performance Simulation with Northeastern University Professor Alpha Yacob Arsano and Colin Chu

Apr 28, 2025

We’re incredibly thrilled to celebrate the recent publication of a fascinating research paper co-authored by LeMessurier’s very own Terrance Dumoulin. This paper provides a major contribution to early-stage energy modeling to more accurately predict solar heat gain. Solar heat gain can affect a building’s occupant comfort, energy consumption, and its operational carbon. Providing owners and designers with a method to more accurately predict this, especially early in the project, is a vital tool in our push toward high-performance and sustainable buildings.

Alpha Yacob Arsano is a professor at Northeastern University and the paper’s lead author. Alpha and Terrance met through classwork and a shared interest in building science, enclosure design, and building performance simulation. When Alpha first mentioned studying improvements to analytical model solar heat gain predictions, Terrance was eager to explore the topic and they embarked on the study, aided by their third co-author Colin Chu. This culminated in their publication in the Journal of Building Performance Simulation, “Calibration of an Analytical Model for Early-Design Stage Solar Heat Gain Prediction.”

This paper intersects with LeMessurier’s Enclosure core objectives, and Terrance’s work is a living embodiment of these goals. Join us in congratulating Terrance on this achievement and check out the full research paper here.
