Norwell Public Library

Norwell, Massachusetts

Drawing architectural inspiration from the natural qualities of the surrounding wooded site, this 21,000sf Mass Timber library building is the recipient of a 2022 Woodworks Wood Design Award for Regional Excellence. The building structure is a combination of Mass Timber and traditional light-frame wood elements, each employed to achieve maximum cost effectiveness without sacrificing the architectural goals of the project. The building is arranged around a central rain garden with three primary wings, each framed using long-span Glulam roof beams to create large column-free areas that are still warm and welcoming spaces for library patrons. Large window walls face outward from the main reading and meeting rooms for expansive views of the neighboring forest from within the comforts of this great new facility for the Town of Norwell.
