Northeastern University EXP
EXP is the newest addition to Northeastern University’s science and engineering hub. This stunning 357,000 square-foot research facility represents the best in design, engineering, and sustainability. As a LEED Platinum certified building, EXP consumes 78% less energy than typical research buildings through high-performance heating and cooling systems and rainwater reuse capabilities.
EXP's notable features include:
- A stainless steel exterior that complements the award-winning Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC) and the Pedestrian Crossing (PedX) walkway. The tapered fins that wrap the facility in a distinctive solar veil optimize daylighting and reduce heat gain.
- A sloping three-dimensional penthouse roof that protects the extensive mechanical systems and bows to the accessible roof garden.
- A cantilevered staircase through the central atrium with elegant offset connections that improve access to daylight from the skylight above.
- Ground-floor makerspaces where experiential robotics and multi-use wet-dry laboratories promote a "science on display" aesthetic.
